Kevin Schular, President

Kevin Schular was appointed the President of Canadian Baptist Seminary in 2018. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Baptist General Conference of Canada. (www.bgc.ca) He has been a pastor for 35 years, Executive Director of a mission agency and Chairs The Mustard Seed Foundation in Alberta.  Kevin has traveled the world doing ministry, sharing the gospel, church planting and working with the poor, homeless and refugees.    

Kevin has a B.A. from Maranatha Baptist University, M.A from McMaster Divinity College and D.Min from Sioux Falls Seminary.

Bernard Mukwavi, Academic Dean

Bernard serves as the district minister of the British Columbia Baptist Conference and core faculty in Missiology and Spiritual Leadership. He graduated from Canadian Theological Seminary (M.A.), Tyndale Theological Seminary in Holland (MDiv.), and Providence Theological Seminary (DMin.). Bernard has extensive missionary, teaching, and pastoral experience in Zambia, Holland, and Canada. His passion is to empower churches to fulfill the great commission and the great commandment in their communities. He is married to Anne and they have 3 children and 2 grandchildren

Guy Saffold, Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program & Associate Professor of Leadership

An energetic, creative, and collaborative leader, Dr. Saffold has extensive experience in organizational and ministry leadership. Originally a pastor with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada, Dr. Saffold joined the staff of Trinity Western University in 1978, eventually serving in a number of roles including Dean of Trinity Western Seminary, Executive Vice President of the University, and Chief Executive of ACTS Seminaries. 

 In 2006, Dr. Saffold joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada where he served as Executive Director of Ministries, overseeing the organization’s many-faceted ministry operations both in Canada and internationally. Working with the teams there, Dr. Saffold contributed to refocusing the organization for more contemporary ministry and changing its name to Power to Change. 

Dr. Saffold rejoined the work of Trinity Western University in 2014, working on legal and public communication projects before being serving as Executive Director of ACTS Seminaries 2016-2019. He is currently engaged in a broad-based project in Thailand to support the Thai National Plan for the Evangelization of Thailand. 

 
 

Michael Fast, Adjunct Faculty

Dr. Michael J. Fast is an ordained minister with the Baptist General Conference of Canada and has served with BGC Canada as both a pastor and Global Ministries Personnel since 1992. As part of that mission, he serves as the Academic Vice-President and Dean of the South East Asian Theological Schools, Inc. His research interest and published work centres on how faith is translated between cultures and how this results in a lived religion. He is married to Eva, and they have two adult children, Emily and Daniel. He and his family have lived and worked in the Philippines since 1999.
 
Michael obtained his B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Saskatchewan, his M.Div. in Missions from Canadian Baptist Seminary, and his Ph.D. in Philippine Studies from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

 
 

Roger Helland, Adjunct Faculty

Dr. Roger Helland currently serves as the Prayer Ambassador for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada. Previously he served as the District Minister of the Baptist General Conference in Alberta. He is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM.) and ACTS\Trinity Western University (DMin.) With over 35 years of experience as a pastor, denominational leader, and adjunct professor at several theological schools, his mission is to equip and empower missional, disciple-making leaders and churches. His passion is for spiritual leadership and church renewal with a deep devotion to prayer and to the ministry of the word (Acts 6:4). He has written six books including The Devout Life, Magnificent Surrender, and Missional Spirituality. He resides with his wife Gail near Calgary, Alberta
